Peta-Anne Baker

Trained social worker with forty years combined experience as a social activist, social development practitioner and academic.

Service to the social work profession: Chair, University Council of Jamaica Social Work Standards Committee; currently serving second consecutive (of three) terms as President, Association of Caribbean Social Work Educators (ACSWE); Author of the Code of Ethics for Social Workers and Human Service Professionals in Jamaica; Life member of the Jamaica Association of Social Workers (JASW) having previously served in several leadership roles.

Full-time academic since 1994: creating opportunities for university-community partnerships; teaching graduate level courses incl. research methods, evaluation of social work practice, applied professional ethics; providing administrative and strategic leadership to programme and department. Areas of research & practice: ageing, applied ethics, gender, community organisation, disaster risk reduction, mindfulness & contemplative practices.

Other areas of work: Founding member of the Jamaica Civil Society Coalition (JCSC) now Jamaica Civil Society Forum; Chair, Editorial Board, Caribbean Journal of Social Work; Peer reviewer for several social work journal and International Editorial Advisor to the Board of the British Journal of Social Work.
